Senior French Bulldog using a treadmill for low-impact exercise therapy

Slow and Steady

We want to ensure your senior dog is comfortable throughout the process. In order to do so, our Senior Dog Conditioning program is designed to be slow and steady. This helps us to monitor steady progress as well as keep your dog relaxed during their rehabilitation sessions.

This program focuses on:

  • Strengthening within a reasonable range of motion
  • Improving mobility and body awareness
  • Integrating movement patterns that will be helpful for navigating life

By focusing on low to moderate weight bearing, we can improve strength and stability without aggravating arthritic conditions in the limbs and spine.

Mobility-Focused Rehabilitation

At Alpha Animal Rehab & Fitness, we maintain the focus of our program while being mindful of compressive forces and impact.

By focusing on low to moderate weight-bearing exercises, we can improve strength and stability without aggravating arthritic conditions in the limbs and spine.

The use of the underwater treadmill Alpha Animal Rehab & Fitness helps to de-load the joints while creating resistance for strength and stability. The mobility-focused exercises focus on real-life demands your senior dog is likely to meet, while at the same time avoiding excessive range that can unintentionally result in soreness and avoidance.

Age-Related Conditions in Senior Dogs

As dogs age, they often face mobility challenges and chronic health conditions that can impact their comfort and independence. Common age-related issues we address include:

  • Arthritis and joint stiffness
  • Muscle weakness and loss of endurance
  • Balance and coordination difficulties
  • Degenerative joint disease
  • Recovery from surgery or injury that is slower in older pets

Our Gentle Approach

At Alpha Animal Rehab & Fitness, we understand the unique needs of senior pets. Our team uses a gentle, compassionate approach designed to keep older dogs comfortable and stress-free throughout therapy. Every session is tailored to their pace, focusing on gradual improvements in mobility, strength, and overall well-being.
